I have started a Bartop Arcade cabinet.

That's looking fantastic. I'm not going to be able to hold off doing something like this for much longer. Time to go shopping for a jigsaw. I need to build a workbench too - but I'm sure the jigsaw will help with that. It's not going to be hard to talk myself into any of this.

    Developing software for Commander X16

Millfork looks fantastic, I might have to give that a shot in my "free time". I've heard that's a thing people have. Still looking for some.

    New tabletop arcade

Just got a chance to sit down and watch that. I'm really envious of your workshop space!

I have started a Bartop Arcade cabinet.

Looking great! I definitely need to get a router and a jigsaw into my life.

    Check out my Pi1541 Build

I ordered some boards from PCBWay, and they arrived but some other bits are still in transit. Still, managed to get one together in simple mode. It'll do for the moment. Works well!

    Idle thinking about 1541 mods

I didn't think about the case of totally disconnecting one drive or the other, but yeah, I'm sure a switching mechanism could be sorted out. Can't see why it couldn't even be done under software control with a Pi1541 in there. It's all just stuff in the back of my mind for now, anyway. My...

    Idle thinking about 1541 mods

It makes me very uncomfortable to think about modding the case of a C64 or a C128, but the idea of an internal SD card reader - SD2IEC or Pi1541 even - is really appealing. Although - has anyone ever come across any mods that put the reader in an external 1541 case? Struck me that it might be...

    Check out my Pi1541 Build

Had one on my to-do list for ages, but I'm still completely undecided on how to put it together at the end. I'm leaning towards a little more exposed PCB, maybe use some clear acrylic sheeting that I've got kicking around. Right now, until some more parts show up in the post, it's far from...

Best options for Commodore 128 video out?

Good on you for taking a shot, though. It certainly looks beyond me, but I've been considering ordering a bunch of parts and just having a go anyway. I do wish there was a better way to test this stuff first, rather than just plugging it into the C128 though, heh. I just got an EPROM programmer...

Introduction to the Oscilloscope and my Recommendations

Really enjoyed the video, it's a topic that's been filed under "black arts" in my mind for ages, and I've just started thinking about taking a dive and picking one up. Timely (for me) and a great rundown of the fundamentals. I hope this becomes a series, I'm on board if it is!

Sun Ultra 5 - Dead NVRAM Battery Fix

I took a break from my usual Commodore shenanigans this weekend, and fixed up a Sun Ultra 5 I've had sitting around for a while. These machines have a common issue as they get older, in that they have a battery-backed memory store for things like time, date - and not very helpfully - the...

I have started a Bartop Arcade cabinet.

I have had this on the to-do list for ages. I have a huge pile of MDF boards out back that are just begging to be turned into a cabinet of some kind. My major blocker is that I don't own a jigsaw ... might be a good excuse to go get one.

Looking forward to hearing how this goes. Looks like a pretty good option for the price.

Best options for Commodore 128 video out?

Unless there's an undocumented feature in the NEC range to handle intensity, it's got to be an 8-colour output at best. I stepped through the video at the points where he held up his terminal block, and can only count 6 wires coming off it anyway, so I'm assuming RGB for half of them, the two...

Best options for Commodore 128 video out?

I just found a place 20 minutes away that claims to have a used NEC 70 series monitor in stock, so I might just swing by and grab it and find out once and for all what's going on. What's not clear from those videos of that guy is whether he's getting any colour signal at all there. Never leaves...

    C64 mini question

A keyboard is pretty essential for Little Computer People if you really want to have fun with it, otherwise it gets sad very quickly. The full size one would be much better, I don't think the on-screen keyboard of the mini or an extra USB keyboard would feel great, you might as well just use an...

Best options for Commodore 128 video out?

Huge success! Used a really cheap composite upscaler I had in a drawer, a few cable ties to hold the thing together, and it's quite readable on my main monitor. It wobbles a bit, it's certainly not perfect, but it'll do the job in the short term.

Best options for Commodore 128 video out?

Thanks for all the info so far, I've got a lot of things to pick up over the coming months to get things just perfect, but I'm going to make a composite cable today to get things rolling. As of yesterday, the computer that's been on my shopping list for 30 years is finally on my desk where it...

Best options for Commodore 128 video out?

Thanks @TomXP411 - I'd forgotten about the MCE2VGA. I remember watching the LGR review of it, and it seemed good but I had no use for it at the time. It's a bit expensive though, so it might have to wait a bit, heh. I plan to keep my 1701 for most day-to-day use, so I can run my luma/chroma...

Best options for Commodore 128 video out?

I've only ever encountered a Commodore 128 in real life once, when they were brand new and I saw one in a shop when I was about 15 or 16. I had a C64 at the time, and I didn't know why I really wanted it, but I knew I did. Yesterday, I bid on one that showed up on eBay, and I actually won the...
